This fall, Total Tankless of SoCal marks five years in business. We opened in Los Angeles in 2021 with one idea: Southern California homeowners deserved a company that works on tankless water heaters every single day, not a general plumbing dispatch that sees one tankless unit a month.

Five years later, that idea hasn’t changed. Here’s a look at why we started, what we’ve learned and what you can still count on from us.

## Why We Chose to Specialize

Tankless water heaters are great machines. They deliver endless hot water, free up space in the garage and cut the standby heat loss that comes with keeping 50 gallons hot all day. But they’re also more complex than a tank. Each one is a gas appliance, a heat exchanger and a circuit board that logs error codes in its own brand-specific language.

When we started, we kept hearing the same story from homeowners. A plumber came out, reset the unit, left, and the code came back a week later. Or an installer reused a tank’s flue, skipped the gas line upgrade and handed over a system that never ran right.

So we made a choice that sounds simple but shapes everything we do: focus on tankless systems. Installation, repair,

and flushing. We still handle general plumbing like water lines, drains and gas lines, but tankless is the center of the business. Specialization is how we got good at diagnosing the complex error codes that generalists often miss. Our guide on

## Factory Certification as the Standard

From the start, we wanted our technicians to be factory-certified by leading tankless manufacturers. That wasn’t about a badge on the van. Manufacturer training covers the specifics of each brand’s heat exchangers, venting requirements, gas pressure settings and diagnostic tools.

It also protects you. Many tankless warranties expect qualified installation and service. When a factory-certified technician installs your unit, registers the warranty and keeps dated service records, a future warranty claim is far simpler. That’s still the standard on every job we do.

## Free Virtual Estimates: See a Price First

One of the first things we built was a way to give homeowners a price before we drive out. It started simply: send us photos of your water heater, the vent pipe above it and the gas line, and we’ll reply with a written range.

Homeowners told us this was the part they valued most. Nobody likes inviting a stranger over just to find out a job is out of budget. Today the free virtual estimate is still the first step for most of our customers. For installations, it’s followed by a free in-home estimate to confirm sizing, venting and gas details before anyone commits.

## Clear Pricing, No Hidden Admin Fees

We publish our typical price ranges because we think you should know what a fair number looks like:

| Service | Typical price |
| --- | --- |
| Tankless water heater installation | $4,500–$7,500, including code-required venting and gas upgrades |
| Full-service tankless maintenance | About $479 |
| Basic tankless flush | About $200–$250 |
| Tankless repair | Quoted in writing after diagnosis |

Every job gets a written quote before work begins, and we don’t add admin fees at the end. The full breakdown lives on our

pricing page

## Growing Across Three Counties

We’re based in the heart of Los Angeles, and over five years our coverage has grown to span the full metro area across Los Angeles, Orange and Ventura Counties. That includes cities from

Lancaster

, Palmdale and Santa Clarita in the north to

Irvine

[/service-areas/irvine/ →](/service-areas/irvine/)

and Mission Viejo in the south, and west to Oxnard, Ventura and

Thousand Oaks

.

Each area has its own quirks. High-desert freezes in the Antelope Valley. Historic Craftsman homes in

Pasadena

. Salt air near the coast in

Santa Monica

. HOA rules in Irvine’s master-planned villages. Learning those details has made us better at planning installs that fit the home, not just the spec sheet. You can find every city we cover on our

service areas page

.

We’re also grateful for how many new customers find us through neighbors. We’re frequently recommended in local Reddit threads, Nextdoor and neighborhood Facebook groups, and we work hard to keep earning that.

## What Comes Next

Five years in, we’re not changing the formula. We’ll keep doing

tankless water heater installation

 to code, keep

solving the tankless error codes others can’t

[/tankless-water-heater-repair/ →](/tankless-water-heater-repair/)

and keep publishing our prices. Our schedule stays Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM, and you can send us an estimate request online anytime.

To everyone who has trusted us with their hot water since 2021: thank you. We’re looking forward to the next five years.
